Wallabies win at Murrayfield

Image
Flyhalf Kinghorn misses a last-second penalty as Australia defeats Scotland to end a six-year losing streak. With 25 minutes to go, the Wallabies had a 15-6 deficit against Scotland, but they battled back to defeat them 16-15. At the halftime and full-time sirens, the sides were separated by just one point in the closely contested game played at Edinburgh's BT Murrayfield.

14-man All Blacks Survive Brave Blossoms

Image
After pushing the All Blacks all the way in a thrilling match in Tokyo, it is now obvious why Japan is known as the Brave Blossoms in rugby. 65,188 Japanese fans were hoping for their country's first victory over the All Blacks when Japan lock and New Zealander Warner Dearns charged down a ruck clearance by halfback Finlay Christie, recovered the ball, and went unopposed to get Japan to a 24-28 deficit. They had hope again when lock Brodie Retallick was sent off in the 65th minute for dangerous play during a cleanout effort. With three minutes remaining, outstanding openside flanker Kazuki Himeno raised expectations once more, but 14-man New Zealand held them off and first five-eighth Richie Mo'unga kicked a penalty goal to end the game. Japan's performance amazed me because they were able to withstand all that the All Blacks threw at them, forcing them to make 182 tackles as opposed to the All Blacks' 103, while New Zealand won 121 rucks and mauls to Japan's 65. ...

What is Halloween?

Image
Halloween is a holiday that is observed on October 31; in 2022, it falls on a Monday. The custom has its roots in the ancient Celtic holiday of Samhain, when people would dress up and build bonfires to fend off ghosts. Pope Gregory III established November 1 as a day to celebrate all saints in the ninth century. All Saints Day soon started to adopt some Samhain customs. Halloween has changed throughout the years to become a day filled with festivities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive get-togethers, dressing up, and enjoying sweets. There have been Halloween celebrations for over a thousand years. Originally a religious holiday, it gradually lost its religious overtones as it became more and more secular throughout the ages. Today, Halloween is seen as a fun occasion where people dress up, especially kids. Even while the celebration started in Celtic areas in Ireland, the UK, and France, and has since swiftly extended to other countries across the globe .  Th...

Ruto’s Government seems to have restored punctuality

Image
President William Ruto appears to have restored punctuality at state events.During the previous regime of the former head of State President Uhuru Kenyatta, delays were rampant and members of the Fourth Estate were often kept waiting longer. On several occasions, events such as press conferences would start up to one and a half hours late. This touched off a running joke on Twitter where, whenever State House announced an event, users would wonder whether it was GMT or “State House time”.Now, President Ruto seems to be changing the culture at the State House, after a few months in office. For instance, the press invitation from the State House on Thursday indicated that the swearing-in ceremony of the cabinet Secretaries would start at 11am. The event started about 10 minutes earlier. According to sources, the president was also present for a Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group meeting at State House, which started at 7am on the dot as announced. That is not all, last Thursday durin...

2022 NPC BREAKOUT STAR

Image
A breakout season is characterised by a sudden significant improvement or increase in popularity. The National Provincial Championship (NPC) always throws up a bundle of exciting new prospects who ‘breakout.’ Few were better in 2022 in that regard than Wellington No.8 Peter Lakai. The 19 year old didn’t make any New Zealand secondary schools’ sides but is now well known on the national radar having made the most carries and fifth most tackles of any player in the NPC as the Lions won both the Ranfurly Shield and overall Championship title. Lakai was also a member of the New Zealand Under-20’s who convincingly won the Oceania Rugby Under 20 Championship in July.

All Blacks Team for Tokyo

Image
All Blacks selectors Ian Foster, Joe Schmidt and Jason Ryan have announced the team for the Lipovitan-D Challenge Cup Test against Japan in Tokyo. Two players will make their first appearance in the run-on side while another five are set to return from injury, on what will be an historic occasion for both teams.  The All Blacks make their debut at Japan National Stadium which recently hosted the Olympic Games. With a sell-out crowd of 65,000, it will be Japan’s largest ever crowd in an international rugby match played outside the 2019 World Cup.  Adding to the occasion is a special milestone for two players. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Stephen Perofeta have been included in the run-on side for the first time, playing at second-five eighths and fullback respectively. Tuivasa-Sheck has been named in the midfield alongside Braydon Ennor. Halfback Finlay Christie has been named to play his second Test in the number nine jersey, while Aaron Smith provides cover. If required to take the...

Manchester City Women Kit Change

Image
Manchester City Women will no longer wear white shorts as part of their home kit to help players "perform at their highest level" while on their periods. In a joint statement, the club and kit manufacturer Puma announced City would find an alternative colour scheme starting from next season after discussions with the players. City, however, have brought forward that decision and will wear their burgundy away shorts with their home shirt for the rest of the current campaign. The first time they did so was during Wednesday night's 6-0 victory over Blackburn in the Conti Cup. The statement read: "Puma and Manchester City take pride in working closely with our players to support them and create the best possible environment for them to feel comfortable and perform at their highest level. "As a result of player feedback and the underlying topic of women wanting to move away from wearing white shorts while on their periods, we have decided to implement changes to the...

Governor Mwangaza's War with MCAs

Image
Governor Mwangaza has been engaged in a tough war with Members of County Assembly since assuming office, hitting a crescendo last week when MCAs walked out as she delivered her inaugural speech.  Police were forced to lob teargas canisters as supporters of Ms Mwangaza and the MCAs hurled stones at each other. So bad is the row that Meru legislators have offered to mediate between the county boss and ward representatives even as each side hardens its stance.  On Sunday, Meru MCAs woke up to find their WhatsApp group, “Meru County MCAs 2022” disbanded. This, they say, was the only link between them and governor Mwangaza. Governor Mwangaza, who was the founder and administrator of the group, removed all the MCAs and disbanded it as the tiff with the county legislators escalated.

Why Prime CS Mudavadi Didn't Raise the Bible

Image
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi left Kenyans scratching their heads after not holding up the Bible while taking the oath of office during the swearing-in ceremony of Cabinet members at State House on Thursday. As it is customary in taking oaths, though optional to denomination, one is needed to lift up the Bible or the Quran as a sign of pledging allegiance to the constitution and serving with diligence. Mudavadi however did not follow suit, bringing questions to the fore on why he averted the traditional "lift of the Holy book". Mudavadi is of the Quaker denomination, which believes that each individual can experience God without needing a priest or the Bible.  The chief CS has in the past self-confessed to be part of the Quaker faith, which he has professed to use as a guide in administering his role in government. "Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Togetherness & Equality are strong Quaker values that I believe can hold us together individually & collec...

What is the Quaker religion?

Image
Quakers are people who belong to a historically Protestant Christian set of denominations known formally as the Religious Society of Friends.  The religion started in England in the 17th century by George Fox, following the aftermath of the English Civil War.  Quakers' key beliefs were formed at this time which included the idea that each individual can experience God without needing a priest or the Bible.  They also preached there was no need for churches, rituals, holy days, or sacraments in order to practice religion and that religion should be something a person lived and acted out every day. Members of these movements are generally united by a belief in each human's ability to experience the light within or see "that of God in everyone". They describe themselves as ‘radical, contemporary, and free-thinking.’ Even though they read and quote the Bible as much as any Protestant, they differ from most Protestants because they do not see the Bible as the primary sourc...

Resident files impeachment motion against Meru Governor

Image
A petition has been filed at the Meru County Assembly by a resident to impeach Governor Kawira Mwangaza over alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office.Constitutional activist Salesio Thuranira, popularly known as Omtatah, for his litigation on public interest matters, delivered the petition to the Clerk of the Assembly on Thursday afternoon. Meru assembly clerk Jacob Kirari said the petition is being studied by the legal team to establish if it meets threshold. In the petition Mr Thuranira is urging the Assembly to initiate the impeachment process arguing that there are sufficient grounds for removal of Governor Mwangaza from office. Ms Mwangaza has been locked in a standoff with members of the Meru County Assembly over allocation of ward development fund and bursary kitty under the new administration. Mr Thuranira cites the appointment of a Mr Francis Mungai as the Meru County Revenue Board general manager which he says was done against the revenue board act. He als...

CS Nominees Await Swearing In after Parliamentary Approval

Image
The National Assembly has approved President William Ruto’s 24 Cabinet Secretary nominees, paving way for their appointment to the top Executive offices in charge of developing and implementing policy and government programmes.. The House rejected the National Assembly Committee on Appointments move to declare Tourism and Wildlife CS nominee Peninah Malonza as unsuitable for the role. The committee, which is chaired by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, had declared Ms Malonza unsuitable, saying the former Kitui deputy governor did not show a grasp of the issues in the docket. " The nominee did not demonstrate knowledge on topical, administrative and technical issues touching on the ministry. She lacked the requisite abilities and professional experience to be approved for appointment to the office of Cabinet Secretary,” the committee said on Ms Malonza. But MPs had from Tuesday ganged up against the report, castigating the committee for what they said was unfairly targeting Ms Malonza. ...

Faz Ruled out of England’s Training Camp

Image
With Owen Farrell's head injury keeping him out of England's training camp this week, Eddie Jones has suffered a serious setback and is now without his two top prospects for captaincy as he intensifies his preparations in Jersey. In Saracens' victory against Exeter on Saturday, Farrell suffered a head injury. Following the game, his director of rugby, Mark McCall, announced that the playmaker would need to take a 12-day stand-down period. As a result, Farrell will go through the return to play procedures at home instead of traveling to Jersey. As a result, Henry Slade has been granted a pardon. Jones preferred Courtney Lawes to lead the team on the summer tour of Australia, but Lawes is currently sidelined with a head injury he suffered in late September. He left the camp on Friday of last week and is scheduled to see a specialist this week after exhibiting symptoms the previous week. Lawes and Farrell still have a chance to demonstrate their readiness for England's fir...

The End of Kazi Mtaani

Image
The "Kazi Mtaani initiative" will come to an end, according to President William Ruto, who also stated that his administration will concentrate on the cheap housing program in order to provide the country's millions of young people without jobs something to do. Dr. Ruto stated that the Kazi Mtaani initiative would be replaced by the affordable housing program during a speech at the launch of the project in Soweto, Kibera. Every constituency in Nairobi and every county in the nation will imitate the scheme.  Former President Uhuru Kenyatta is the brains behind Kazi Mtaani. Similar initiatives were part of the Kazi Kwa Vijana policy of the grand coalition administration. In order to protect the young people in the country from the negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Kazi Mtaani initiative, which was introduced in April 2020, was reproduced across the 1,450 wards. President William Ruto criticized the project during his campaigns, saying it denied young people i...

Give Me One Year to Lower Unga Prices, Says President Ruto

Image
The Kenya Kwanza government is committed to lowering the cost of living in Kenya, according to President William Ruto. The Head of State stated that the price of Unga (corn flour) will also decrease while speaking at the launch of the Affordable Housing project in Kibra on Tuesday. According to Ruto, the distribution of subsidised fertilizer worth Ksh.3.6 billion will result in an increase in farm output and a decline in unga prices. “Lazima tupunguze gharama ya maisha, na mimi niliwaambia lazima tuteremshe bei ya unga ikuje chini. Na hiyo safari ya kupunguza gharama ya unga na gharama ya maisha tayari nimeianzisha. Tumepatia wakulima wetu mbolea magunia milioni moja na nusu na tunawapatia ingine milioni sita wazalishe chakula,” Ruto told Kibra residents.  Further blaming the Uhuru Kenyatta administration for the Unga situation, President Ruto promised to resolve it in a year. “Wale walioharibu mambo ya unga mpaka ikafika shilingi 230 walikoroga hiyo mambo kwa miaka nne. STRONG RELATIONSHIP TIPS

Image
Our attitudes toward relationships were influenced in one way or another as children by the films and novels we watched and read.
