Why do Germany wear white?

Image
Have you ever questioned why Germany wears white when their national flag does not contain the color? Germany is one of the world's most recognizable national teams, especially when it comes to the World Cup, where they almost always advance to the playoffs. Inevitably, they were eliminated in the group stages four years ago due to the reigning champions curse, and after their shocking opening loss to Japan last week, it appeared that they would be eliminated once more. However, prior to 2018, they had advanced at least as far as the semifinals in the previous four competitions, with the only exception occurring in 1978, when there were two group stages. Along with the team, their uniforms are legendary. Their traditional white color is frequently paired with a lovely design, and their iconic 1990 World Cup winning shirt is one of the all-time greats. Intrestingly, Germany's uniform has nothing to do with their nation's flag, in contrast to nations like England,...

Are Brazil Ready to Be World Champions in Qatar

Leaders in the FIFA/Coca-Cola Ranking Brazil will travel to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 with a greatly changed lineup, with more than half of the team that lost to Belgium in the round of 16 in Russia four years ago having been replaced. Along with a change in personnel, the Seleção's mindset has also changed. This is a more daring team that has tapped into a group of talented young forwards who left Brazil at a young age and have made names for themselves at some of the best teams in Europe. They are Rodrygo, Antony, Raphinha, and Vinicius Junior. They are now prepared to assist Neymar in carrying the creative load. Most of them were teenagers in 2018 when they were just beginning out in their careers. “A Seleção had the results and the solidity but we lacked the impetuosity and creativity that these players bring,” said head coach Tite, who wasted little time in bringing the new generation into the fold. He now faces the challenging challenge of selecting who will travel to th...

WORLD CUP TO BE LIVE ON TWITTER

Football fans will be able to watch the eagerly awaited World Cup start on Twitter, according to Tesla CEO Elon Musk. On social media on Saturday, the CEO of Twitter announced that the social platform would stream live coverage of the opening match between the tournament's hosts, Qatar, and Ecuador. He went on to suggest that the game would include live commentary. 'Sunday is the first World Cup game! Watch on Twitter for the best coverage and current commentary,' thus according Musk. Despite Musk not providing any links or hashtags to use, the decision will be important for soccer fans who rely on a few of the free-to-air channels or set-top boxes for coverage. Only Kenya's KBC TV, a free-to-air channel, has announced plans to broadcast around 28 of the games for the general audience. The competition, which will run from November 20 through December 18, will feature 32 teams. Eight groups will compete.

World Cup chief reveals what will happen if people hold hands in Qatar

What will happen to people that hold hands throughout the competition has been disclosed by the Qatari World Cup's CEO. In the Gulf State, public expressions of affection will be permitted, according to Nasser Al Khater. "Look, we've always said that everybody is welcome here. All we ask is for people to be respectful of the culture.' he said. "Everybody is welcome here and everybody will feel safe when they come to Qatar. Everybody. But it's not me that I'm worried about. It's those ones that are messaging me. It's those people that aren't in the public eye that are scared to even be themselves and walk the streets." Many supporters are still hesitant about what they can and cannot do in the Middle East, despite Al Khater's assurances. Eight of the tournament's sites will not sell alcohol to spectators, it was declared yesterday. Additionally, there are still concerns regarding how the LGBT+ community will be received upon arriva...

Gary Neville: Ronaldo's contract be terminated

The club ought to invalidate Cristiano Ronaldo's Manchester United contract, according to former United captain Gary Neville. Ronaldo recently declared he does not respect United manager Erik ten Hag and that he is being ejected from Old Trafford in an explosive interview with TalkTV. Since Ten Hag assumed management of United in May, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has played just a supporting role. After declining to replace an injured player in a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur last month, Ronaldo received a warning. But his most recent action went even further, accusing the club's owners, the Glazer family, of having "no care" about the team's athletic achievement. "l don't think he wants a way back, . He wouldn't have done this interview if he wanted a way back.  He knew it would bring the headlines it has and be the end of his Manchester United career."  Neville told Sky Sports After returning to United from Juventus in August 2021...

Qatari Authorities Ban Sale of Alcohol in Stadiums

Following last-minute negotiations, World Cup organizers in Qatar have prohibited the selling of alcohol near stadiums, FIFA reported on Friday. FIFA and Qatari organizers were involved in late negotiations over whether beer will be offered at the stadiums during the tournament, which starts on Sunday. FIFA said in a statement: "Following discussions between host country authorities and FIFA, a decision has been made to focus the sale of alcoholic beverages on the FIFA Fan Festival, other fan destinations and licensed venues, removing the sales points of beer from Qatar's FIFA World Cup 2022 stadium perimeters." While fans can buy alcohol at the authorized fan zones throughout the competition, however, the availability of beer at the actual games has generated some debate. At first glance, it seems as though FIFA and sponsors Budweiser reached an understanding to allow alcohol sales at the stadiums. After The New York Times first stated that the beer tents would be less n...

The Story of Guillermo ‘Memo’ Ochoa

Guillermo ‘Memo’ Ochoa is set to play in his third World Cup.     How Ochoa has made a name for himself on the biggest stage in football. Ochoa earned call ups to the 2006 and 2010 World Cups for Mexico based off his performances for Club América.     He didn’t appear in a match in either of those tournaments. Then in 2014, Ochoa was named Mexico’s starting goalkeeper and earned a clean sheet in a 1-0 opening game victory over Cameroon. Mexico faced hosts Brazil in their second match, a game that put Ochoa on the map.     He made six saves, including an incredible stop from Neymar’s header as Brazil were held to a goalless draw. OCHOA WAS UNREAL 😱  (via @FIFAWorldCup) Mexico reached the last 16 and he made three saves against the Netherlands before the Dutch were awarded a late penalty to win 2-1. Following the competition, Ochoa signed a three-year deal with La Liga side Málaga.    His career stalled as he only made a handful...

One of the World Cup’s biggest villains.

Image
Luis Suárez had a rollercoaster of a career from 2010 to 2014. A 23-year-old Suárez began to make his mark on the tournament in 2010, playing a key role in dark-horse Uruguay’s run to the semifinals. Uruguay topped their group, which included hosts South Africa, Mexico and reigning finalists France. Suárez had a goal and two assists. In the round of 16, Suárez truly announced himself on the international stage. In a tricky, rainy match against South Korea, Suárez put on a heroic performance, scoring both goals including an 80th-minute winner to send Uruguay to their first quarterfinals since 1970. And then in the quarterfinals against Ghana, a World Cup moment which will forever live in infamy.  That handball!! In injury time of extra time, with Uruguay keeper Muslera beaten, Suárez prevented a goal with his knee. But when the second shot came, Suarez used both hands to ensure Uruguay wouldn’t concede.  Penalty to Ghana. Red card to Suárez. Ghana missed the 122nd-minute penalt...

Qatar World Cup Was a Mistake, Sepp Blatter

Image
Sepp Blatter, a former head of Fifa, said that awarding Qatar the right to host the 2022 World Cup was a "mistake." Blatter, 86, presided over the body that controls world football when Qatar was chosen to host the competition in 2010. The Gulf state has been under fire for its stance on same-sex relationships, human rights record, and handling of migrant labor. Blatter asserted that he was "right" at the time when he said the tournament "should not go" to Qatar in 2022. Blatter claimed that Qatar is "too little of a country" to host the World Cup and that "football and the World Cup are too enormous for it" in an interview with the Swiss newspaper Tages Anzeiger. From November 20 through December 18, the World Cup in Qatar is taking place. It is the first time in the competition's 92-year existence that it has taken place in the Middle East and during the Northern Hemisphere's winter. The Fifa executive committee voted 14-8 to ...

Drama at Bramall Lane

Image
There was plenty of drama in an English Championship game between Blackpool and Sheffield United that ended in a 3-3 stalemate. The contest featured a 98th-minute equalizer, a late missed penalty, four red cards, and a fight that broke out after the game's time limit had expired. The game was played at Sheffield United's stadium, Bramall Lane. The goals by James McAtee (8') and Iliman Ndiaye (23') gave the hosts a quick 2-0 lead. The hosts entered the day as the top team in the standings. Jerry Yates of Blackpool gave his side a fighting chance by scoring two goals before the 45th minute. With only six minutes played in the second half, Kenny Dougall handed the visitors a 3-2 advantage. Rhian Brewster of Sheffield United had a penalty kick to level the game in the 88th minute, but he struck the woodwork. Oliver Norwood finally scored the equalizer with a right-foot volley from the edge of the box eight minutes into added time for Sheffield United. With that one, Appleto...
