Drama at Bramall Lane
There was plenty of drama in an English Championship game between Blackpool and Sheffield United that ended in a 3-3 stalemate. The contest featured a 98th-minute equalizer, a late missed penalty, four red cards, and a fight that broke out after the game's time limit had expired.
The game was played at Sheffield United's stadium, Bramall Lane. The goals by James McAtee (8') and Iliman Ndiaye (23') gave the hosts a quick 2-0 lead. The hosts entered the day as the top team in the standings. Jerry Yates of Blackpool gave his side a fighting chance by scoring two goals before the 45th minute.
With only six minutes played in the second half, Kenny Dougall handed the visitors a 3-2 advantage. Rhian Brewster of Sheffield United had a penalty kick to level the game in the 88th minute, but he struck the woodwork.
Oliver Norwood finally scored the equalizer with a right-foot volley from the edge of the box eight minutes into added time for Sheffield United. With that one, Appleton was not pleased, claiming that three Blades were offside.
"I did have my say because I was disappointed. I thought they [the officials] had a poor day today," Appleton said in a post-match interview. Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom described the game as "chaotic" during his postgame interview. He said his team's first two goals were good but they were sloppy with the ball and got punished for some errors at the back.
