Where Exactly Did Christmas Originate from?

Image
Christmas, which is observed on December 25, is a holy religious event as well as a global cultural and economic event. People have been celebrating it with customs and rituals that are both religious and secular in nature for two millennia now. Christmas Day is marked by Christians as the anniversary of the birth of their spiritual figurehead, Jesus of Nazareth, whose teachings serve as the foundation of their faith. Popular traditions include gifting, erecting and decorating Christmas trees, going to church, gathering with loved ones for feasts, and, of course, waiting for Santa Claus. The origins of Christmas stem from both the pagan and Roman cultures. The Romans actually celebrated two holidays in the month of December. The first was Saturnalia, which was a two-week festival honoring their god of agriculture Saturn. On December 25th, they celebrated the birth of Mithra, their sun god. Monday's Holiday

Image
The Ministry of Interior has distanced itself from reports indicating that it declared Monday, October 24, a public holiday. Officials at the Ministry insisted that outgoing CS Fred Matiang'i did not gazette the holiday to allow Kenyans to celebrate the Diwali festival insisting that it was highly unlikely as the event was not celebrated in the previous years. Kenyans are urged to ignore false reports doing rounds on social media and instead proceed with their normal working duties. Reports on the purported Monday holiday emerged on social media following government publications on the regulation and use of fireworks during the festivities. This, however, is not the first time misleading reports on public holidays have been in circulation. In the last year, the Kenyan government was made to distance itself from a fake gazette notice that had been gone viral.
