Kakamega Rugby Dominates Yala

 Kakamega School Rugby delivered an outstanding performance to clinch the 2024 Yala Opens title by defeating Sawagongo with a commanding 17-0 victory.


The Barbarians secured the win by scoring three tries against Sawagongo, with Shavan Ochieng, Garang Geu, and Austin Shuma each contributing a try. Additionally, Shuma successfully converted a try to seal the triumph.


KAKAMEGA'S IMPRESSIVE RUN

The Kakamega 7s team demonstrated their strength by dominating all their matches. They started with a resounding 32-0 victory over Maranda in the quarters and followed it up with a 27-14 win against Vihiga in the semi-final.


On the opposing side, Sawagongo advanced to the finals after defeating Bondo Township 29-0 and Cambridge 12-7. In other matches, Agoro Sare suffered a 26-17 loss to Vihiga in the second semi-final, while Yala, the hosts, succumbed to a 37-0 defeat against Cambridge in the third semi-final.


In the Rugby 15s category of the tournament, Chavakali faced a challenging match and lost to hosts St. Mary's Yala with a score of 12-3. Vihiga secured an 8-3 victory against Masibo Buffaloes, and in the third quarter-final, St. Peters edged out Kakamega with a 13-10 win. St. Antony’s Kitale booked a spot in the semi-finals by defeating Friends School Kamusinga with a commanding 17-0 victory.


In the semi-finals, Vihiga suffered an 8-5 defeat against St. Mary’s Yala, while St. Antony’s Kitale secured a 6-0 victory against St. Peters. The finals witnessed a close contest as St. Mary’s Yala lost 3-6 to St. Antony’s Kitale.
