The 2022/23 Kenya Cup Concludes.

What a season this has been! Electrifying! Entertaining! and fan centric are the words I can find to define the 2022_23 Rugby season in Kenya as Champions Kabras cruised through the season undefeated.

The Kenya cup lived up to its billing by providing mouth-watering fixtures week in week out. The results of the final show it all. A closely contested league title between the big two clubs in the country at the moment.
The league was even tighter in the relegation fight as more that 6 teams were either tied on points or were a point from each other in the relegation zone.
To guarantee yourself survival in the Kenya cup, a team has to gunner upwards of 15 points. This seems an easy fete however it is quite daunting to achieve. This is the fact as MMUST, and Fellow university students, Mean Machine failed to retain Kenya Cup status, and will take part in next seasons KRU Championship.

Seasoned Kenya Cup survivors Blak Blad made a quick escape from the drop zone by handing last years finalist a beating that was the upset of the season. Mwamba on the other hand were written off to face the chop as early as their date with eventual runners-up KCB, as they were pummeled upwards of 50 points. This would actually spur their campaign back to life and they managed to stay afloat side by side with debutants Catholic Monks and Strathmore.
Homeboyz's season was a seesaw as at the beginning they threatened a finish in the playoff positionS but this wasn't to be as they went on a loosing streak but had done enough to stay afloat. This was equally the fate of Wanyore, Nakuru RFC, who fought from the depths of certain relegation to retain their spot in Kenya's topflight rugby league.

The gap, however, is clear as night and day, proper club setups are vital in the performance of any club. This has been evident as the semi and fully pro sides have had their way through out the season. Going forward, clubs will need to have proper structures in management and player welfare if they ever want to challenge for silverware.
